Bio

Taina B Quiles is a second generation Latina, lesbian, New Yorker at heart whose research interests focus on racial healing. Drawing from womanist and mujeristas, Taina hopes to explore how Black and Latina women and girls leverage hope, love, spirituality, communalism, and resilience to develop their critical consciousness, and work towards dismantling oppressive structures in their community. She is particularly interested in community informed and participation action research. Within the FHIRE Lab, she serves as the Co-PI on the Hope, Resilience Action Study – a project which focuses on exploring the ways Black and Latina girls’ home, school and online experiences contribute to their critical consciousness and sociopolitical development. On this project, Taina is exploring how concurrent exposure to both racial violence and activism relates to girls’ critical action, and visions for the future.
