Bio

A’zure Latimer is a first year Bridge to the Doctorate Post-Bac Fellow in Community Psychology. Her research interests include respectability politics and youth agency among Black girls. Post-PhD she intends to become CEO of a non-profit for the self-empowerment of Black girls, utilizing evidence-based programming and advocating for public policy change (i.e., via school systems and media).

A’zure has interned and volunteered with various community organizations supporting Black girls, as well as their self-empowerment and personal voice. She is a proud alumni of Hampton High School (VA) and Georgia State University (Atlanta campus). Additionally, she owes it all to the talented and persistent Black communities, especially Black women, she’s witnessed and participated in along her journey. They are why she does this work, with self-empowerment and service as the enduring mission.

(Vegan) baking, artsy events, drinking tea, (Christian) rap/r&b/indie/jazz, and a good convo are some of the things that bring A’zure joy.

I’d love to talk about with you about: applying for grad school straight out of undergrad, limited (lab) experience prior to applying for grad school, and ways to support Black women and community :) Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or ideas, I’d love to hear from you!
